It's quite a major project, consisting of manga adapted from the anime, but different methods of meeting and accepting the job.

There's also a Live Drama, you can just find it if you searched at crunchyroll.com. For the live drama they used Dreamcatcher by Olivia, who is well known for Reira Serizawa in my most favourite anime NANA.




Well, basically the story is about this myth circulating that there is a Hotline to Hell.
And if you have a heavy hatred over someone, you have to visit the site by midnight. Jigoku Shoujo aka Hell Girl will visit and accept your request. Thus, she will hand you one of the 3 strawdolls (ie. one of her 3 helpers) with a red string around its neck. The choice of sending the antagonist to Hell will only be exacted when you remove the red string from the straw doll.

The catch is, if you remove the red string and curse the person to Hell, you will also be sent to Hell when you die. That is the contract between you and her.

She becomes Jigoku Shoujo after she was sacrifised by her villagers 400 years ago for the sake of the village's wellbeing. With such hatred, she was lost and burnt her village to ashes. The Hell God did a deal with her, which is by making her Jigoku Shoujo and when she has done her job being one, her loved ones will be not be lost in Hell. Or something like that.
